Sample Introductions
Below are some sample introductions students have written in fifth grade. Do not plagiarize by using these introductions as your own.

Tecumseh Introduction:
In the late 1700s and early 1800s, the white settlers settled in the Native American's land. Different tribes did different things for the settlers. Some of them shared the land with the settlers while others tried to drive them away by force. Tecumseh’s Shawnee tribe tried it by force. He wanted the Native Americans to keep their traditional ways of life, so he attempted to form a confederacy. He had to fight many battles in order to fulfill his dream. The center of all this was Tippecanoe Village of Prophetstown. Today, he is known for his efforts to create a Native American confederacy. He wanted to keep their land and their usual way of life without guns or anything obtained by the whites.

Harriet Tubman Introduction:
Harriet Tubman was a slave as a child, but she grew up to be a great person. She was a leader for her people and was determined to be free. She fought for what she believed in. She was never rewarded for her achievements in freeing slaves. She was known as "Moses" because she led over 300 slaves to freedom.

Mary Ludwig Hayes Introduction
Molly Pitcher was a very interesting woman in American history. She is remembered for her contribution in the American Revolution. Her determination and grit displayed in battle distinguished her from other women and some men as well.
